Terry cuts another record despite horrid conditions

GOLF: ANDREW Terry has held the Springfield Park course record for many years, and at least once every summer he manages to repeat the 63.

Finally, the scratchman has shot through the barrier, defying Saturday's horrendous weather to card a remarkable 61.

But even that was not enough to win him the fourth round of the Wallwork competition.

He had to play second fiddle to Dave Fenton who returned a 59.

Castle Hawk pair Nick Simpson and Steve Simpson have got a very important date in Scotland coming up.

After winning their club's qualifier for the International Pairs competition, they now head to Blairgowrie.

Success there will see them in the final at Carnoustie in October.

The hardy members of Whittaker pitted themselves against the rain for Saturday's 36-hole Ernst Harvey Cup.

After a relatively peaceful morning round, the weather deteriorated and only five completed the afternoon rouns.

But astonishingly Paul Deacon was able to return a 67 to go with his earlier 66.

That commendable total gave him a three-stroke victory over Daryl Kernick, with Colin Chew a further two shots back.

Sue McNiff's 72 was good enough to give her Rochdale Ladies' monthly medal prize, with Barbara Scott and Kim Hoyle completing the top three.

Two former Lobden captains, Ray Clegg and Chris Chrimes, teamed up to take Rochdale's fourball better ball on Tuesday.

They beat Brian Hoyle and David Nicholls on a card play-off after both pairshad scored 43 points.
