Strong team blows away rivals

QUICK, but uneven greens, allied to a very strong wind made scoring difficult in Rochdale's four-man yellow ball competition.

But the strong team of Steve Lord, Mark Jones, Jonathan Cocker and Graham Shepherd made light work of the difficulties to come in with six points to spare. Lord's eagle two at the third was an unexpected bonus.

If the wind was a problem at Rochdale, it's not difficult to imagine the conditions at Lobden, and the harshness was reflected in the winning score.

Peter Chadwick came out on top after a card play-off with Paul Lord. They battled to score 35 points.

Barrie Diggle, off 14, picked up Manchester's AJ Grant Trophy by going round the Hopwood course in 83 for a 69.

That was another countback win after Keith Hough, also playing off 14, had come in with an identical score.

Tunshill's three-man yellow ball competition was won by Brett Greaves, Scott Whittaker and Simon Halstead. Their 68 was two too good for the chasing teams.

There was double celebration for Whittaker Ladies pair Lynne Weight and Hannah Kernick.

After taking the first two places in a club medal competition they progressed to the third round of the Daily Mail foursomes with a victory on the first extra hole at Bacup.
