Mayfield in waiting

WITH only one point required to be crowned National League Division One champions, Rochdale Mayfield are not in action today (Sat) and will have to wait on other team's results to see if they have secured the title this weekend.

Castleford Panthers and Leigh East are the only two who can catch the Rochdale outift and they face each other this weekend.

A win for either side would end their opponents' quest for the championship, while a draw would clinch the title for Mayfield.

Panthers lie second, four points adrift of Mayfield with two games to play, while Leigh are third, eight points behind but with two games in hand.

Both sides would need to win all their games left and rack up some huge points in order to pip Mayfield.

Mayfield's North West Counties team is in cup action today when they take on Moss Bank Bulldogs in a North West Bowl quarter-final.

Mayfield go into the game as favourites due to the league placings of the two. Moss Bank lie third in Division Six, while Mayfield are second in Division Five.

After last week's comfortable league victory over Westbrook Tigers, Mayfield will have to have their wits about them when they tackle the Bulldogs who are certainly no pushovers.
