Ashton wins with ease as results improve at Trows

ONCE again Rochdale and District's Trows Lane has been the only local venue in use.

Sunday's members' sweepstake, held on the match lodge, came up with a slightly better result than of late.

Simon Ashton won easily, catching roach and skimmers on pole and pinkie to weigh 7-5-0. In second place, from peg six, was Walt Pilmoor who caught roach and perch, on maggot, for 3-2-0. Tony Halcroft was third with a small roach and a skimmer for 1-1-0.

The Wednesday sweepstake, fished on the round lodge, showed much improved form.

Match organiser Vinny Eyes adopted his favourite swingtip method to catch seven skimmers and a dozen bits to win with 5-12-0 from peg 11.

In second place, from peg nine, was Tony Holcroft who caught skimmers on pole and red maggot to weigh in 3-8-0. Steve Hodgeon was third with a 2-5-0 mixed net of roach, perch and skimmers from peg three.

Next Sunday's Winter League match at Trows may be fished by members not entered in the league. They must, however, ring Vinny Eyes on 0161 665 1134 to secure their bacon sandwich and pie. The butties will be available from 7am.
