Walt is favourite to land Winter League title

Angling Lines

ROCHDALE and District have provided the only match action in the last few days.

The penultimate gathering in the Winter League series saw several anglers in with a chance of emerging as overall winner. Now there is one clear favourite.

The match was won by John Hooper who netted five chub and a skimmer, on worm and caster, for 6-10-8.

But Walt Pilmoor made himself favourite for the title by finishing second in the match with 4-8-8 of roach and chub taken on caster over bloodworm.

Pilmoor now has a four-point buffer going into the last match of the series in two week's time.

Third-placed Steve Hodgeon netted a roach and a chub, taken on caster, to put 2-0-0 to the scales.

The round lodge reverted back to the poor form of recent weeks for Wednesday's sweepstake.

Tony Halcroft needed only 2-5-0 to win. He reeled in roach and a skimmer.

Ted Dunn caught small roach and perch to take second spot with 1-8-8. Paul Consterdine was third with 1-7-0 of small roach.

A last reminder for Todmorden AS members that subs must be renewed before 31 January or they will be required to pay an extra £10 entrance fee.

Rochdale and District members are reminded subs must be paid before the third Sunday in February. Members can pay in on Saturday mornings, between 9 and noon, at the clubhouse.
