Vandals find depleted Boro tough opponents

6/12/2005

LITTLEBOROUGH under nines travelled over the Pennines to Halifax Vandals' new sports complex, with a depleted side.

Despite being five men down Boro got off to a flier, with the Pennine Townships man of the match George Coupe crossing the whitewash first.

The Vandals soon got into their stride and hit back.

Boro's tackles were coming in thick and fast, a vast improvement on last week.

Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, the home team crossed again to lead at the break.

The visitors conceded an early try in the second half which kicked them into gear. Top-tacklers Stephan Aitchison and Matthew Rigby led by example in defence as Boro slowed the Vandals down in the second half, but were unable to keep them out.

Tom Blakeley quadrupled his tackle count from last week to earn the most-improved accolade.

This was an impressive display by Boro with an understrength side and the result could have been different with a full squad. The Vandals took the spoils by four converted tries.

SQUAD : Matthew Rigby (2t), Daniel McGrith, George Coupe (4t), Tom Blakeley, Stephan Aitchison (1t).
