Jack’s the lad to win at Rydings
John Hooper2/12/2005
Angling Lines
THERE was a change of fortune for Newhey and District Anglers who fished Rydings for the fourth Winter League match.
Jack Griffin won with four bream and two skimmers which gave him 15-0-0.
Trevor Priestley was second with a bream catch of 9-8-0 and third place went to Tommy Smith who netted a bream of 2-15-0.
Ten anglers turned out at Trows Lane to fish the members' Sunday sweepstake.
It was hard going, but there were fish for all.
Walt Pilmoor drew peg two, his least favourite, and had bites throughout to win with 3-7-0 of chub, roach and perch caught on maggot.
Dave Redfern fished bloodworm, on peg four, to catch roach and perch weighing 3-4-8. Chris Leonard netted 2-9-0 of perch and ruffe, on bloodworm, from peg 27.
The regular Wednesday match at Trows went ahead on the bottom lodge, even though most of the water was frozen.
Small fish were the order of the day and Vinney Eyes netted 2-15-0 of roach and perch, on Pinkie and caster, to win from peg five.
Steve Hodgeon was on peg six and had a very similar catch for 2-6-0. Walt Pilmoor was third, from peg three, with 2-4-0.
Rochdale Walton moved to Syke reservoir for their second Winter League fixture after all anglers had blanked in the previous match at Healey Dell.
But the result was exactly the same. Nine anglers turned out and nine went home with having had a single bite.
John Kershaw, a spokesman for Walton, said members were at a loss as to what has happened, but the situation will be closely watched.
Despite the two "results" the Fur and Feather match will go ahead at Healey Dell on 11 December.
