LITTLEBOROUGH United Co-op remain top of the table with five wins out of five, but they were made to fight all the way for their 22-4 win by a resolute Brighouse side.
Defences were on top in the first half. Boro gave away two needless penalties to go into the break 4-0 down.
Due to heavy rain, flowing rugby was in short supply, but the locals got back into the game when Adam Browne put Gary Keegan through. Danny Caton converted.
Browne then set up Adam Winward to score and the flying winger went in again five minutes later for a second.
The best try of the day went to prop John Nicol who backed up a Browne break for a superb score.
In the end Boro's superior fitness was the key to an excellent team performance, but special praise must go to Nathan Shepherd and Gareth Sharrocks.
Littleborough have a tough game today when they play Bank Top Harriers in the Andrew Bennett Memorial Cup. It will be their first match against Harriers.
Players should meet at 12.30pm for a 2pm kick-off. Match sponsor is Mally Davies.
