Milnrow aim to bounce back

MILNROW lost their unbeaten record to Waterhead at Firgrove on Saturday.

The visitors' strong-running forwards gave them the upper hand. Milnrow battled to hold them to a 6-4 lead at half time.

Waterhead then raced into a 22-4 lead, but hard running from Chris Brett and Shane Molloy gave the home team purpose and the visitors struggled to contain them.

Milnrow couldn't close the gap, as they went down 22-14. Try-scorers for Milnrow were Lee Wilson, Les Salisbury and Scott Manock.

• MILNROW'S race day raised £600, which was equally divided between the rugby club's youth section, and a fund to help three Milnrow cricketers hone their cricketing skills in Australia during the winter.

• TODAY (Sat) Milnrow go to Langworthy Reds for a Lancashire Cup match.

Milnrow have Dave Waddington and Marvin Connolly missing, due to work commitments, but coach Kevin Lowe believes it is an opportunity for those called up to shine.

Players are asked to meet at Milnrow Cricket Club at 12.30pm. The match is sponsored by Industrial and Marine Lift Services, Rochdale.

• LITTLEBOROUGH produced a clinical display to dispose of Illingworth in a one-sided affair.

Boro's forwards laid the platform for their speedy backs to run in several outstanding tries.

Flying wingers Luke Eastwood and Adam Winward notched a brace apiece, with Danny Lockett, Micky Hadaway and Danny Caton also scoring two apiece. The highlight of the game was a five-minute hat-trick from captain Adam Browne. Caton added five conversions and Hadaway three, and on this form Boro will take some beating.

Man of the match was Gary Keegan with Adam Browne and Micky Haddaway close behind.

Boro travel to South Yorkshire today (Sat) to take on Sheffield Hillsborough.

Players meet at noon for a 12.30pm departure.
