Tunshill duo have cause to celebrate

TWO Tunshill members had something to celebrate last weekend.

Bernard Gregory finished second in Division Three of the second captain's qualifying round with a 70.

Then, 24 hours later, the 28-handicapper produced an identical round to capture the club's Seniors Cup.

On Saturday greenkeeper Dave Thornton struck the third hole-in-one of his career, a four iron doing the trick on the 193-yard fourth hole.

Overall winner was Graham Sykes, whose 65 gave him a one-shot win over Andy Ives and John Cragg.

• DAVID Dewhurst is the champion's champion at Springfield Park. The five-handicapper's 65 gave him the All-Winners final with just a stroke to spare.

• THERE was a tight finish in the first captain's qualifier played by Rochdale Ladies. Kath Simpson came out on top with 67 to pip Brenda Flett and Frances Moore who were both one shot back.

• ERIC Taylor enjoyed a one-stroke victory in the third captain's qualifier at Lobden to complete a successful week. He had finished second in the previous Wednesday's nine-hole competition.

• HOPWOOD'S Rachel Connor has been named in the Lancashire team to take on Yorkshire, Cheshire, Northumberland, Cumbria and Durham in the county match week at the West Lancashire club next month.

A week later she will be in the Lancashire side to meet Oxbridge, again at West Lancs.
