Schofield makes his return as an amateur
29/ 4/2005
CHRIS Schofield makes his return as a Lake Garage CLL amateur on Saturday when Littleborough open their season with a match against Crompton at Hare Hill.
Schofield was dropped by Lancashire at the end of last season but recently won a case against the county for unfair dismissal.
He played for Boro before going on to Lancashire and an England appearance and should boost a team which shows little change to last season other than with the overseas amateur and professional.
Mohammed Zaman is pro and new overseas man is Adam Lavis in a team led by Phil Deakin.
Norden have been forced into early season changes. Wicket-keeper Nick Brierley had a knee operation earlier this week and will be replaced behind the stumps by Greg Tattersall.
Simon North and Chris Shotton are unavailable for Saturday's home match against Middleton but come back into contention for Sunday's visit to Crompton. In the 11, from last weekend's second team, are David Bebb, Guglielmo Papa and Phil Collinson.
Rochdale Carcraft, who meet Milnrow Sonoco at Redbrook on Sunday, have made two changes to the side which crashed to an unexpected defeat at Radcliffe last weekend. In come Mark Butterworth, the former second team skipper, who was working last weekend, and teenage pace bowler Lee Milner who made such a good impression when he replaced the injured Steve Oddy for the final half a dozen games last season.
Dropping back into the seconds are batsman Andy Field and opening bowler Anthony Clough.
Before heading off for Redbrook on Sunday, Milnrow, fresh from an opening day away win at Walsden, entertain Royton at home on Saturday when supporters will be keen to see new professional Paul Wiseman, the Kiwi international Test player.
Milnrow have worked hard on improving their playing surface during the winter months and will be hoping their labour provides a fruitful hunting ground for Wiseman and the foundation for a season of continued improvement for the team as a whole.
