Mayfield travel north for toughest test

ROCHDALE Mayfield travel to Cumbria on Saturday to take on Wath Brow Hornets, who are widely regarded as the best amateur team in the country, in the fifth round of the GMB Union National Cup.

Wath Brow recently knocked professional side Dewsbury out the Challenge Cup and are lying second in the Conference Premier Division with plenty of games in hand.

After last week's narrow defeat against Eccles and Salford Juniors, in which Mayfield bombed two or three chances to win the game, coach Shaun Gartland is hoping to upset the odds.

Players and supporters meet 9.30am for 10am departure. Kick off 2pm.

• MILNROW travel to St Helens to face in-form Thatto Heath. The Merseyside club have strengthened since Milnrow beat them at home, having picked up several players when Portico Vine folded earlier this season.

Milnrow, though, are full of confidence after last week's battling win at Burtonwood and coach Kevin Lowe is looking for two points.

"Thatto are a strong side and with a team in the Conference they have several fringe players available," he said.

"They are a lot harder to beat than when we played them at home, but if we show the same commitment as last week I'm sure we can get something out of the match."

Players meet at Milnrow Cricket Club at 12.15pm.
