Hornets skipper earns top accolade

HORNETS' influential captain Andy Gorski is Rugby League World magazine's first Northern Rail Cup player of the month for 2005.

The hard-running number 13 has been at the forefront of a magnificent March for Bobbie Goulding's men, with an incredible 304 points in four matches including a record-breaking 120-4 Challenge Cup win against amateur side Illingworth at Spotland.

Gorski has chipped in with seven tries from loose forward and some outstanding personal displays have earned him the accolade.

Goulding could not praise his skipper highly enough and said: "Andy has been absolutely fabulous. He leads the side well, never misses a training session and is a top professional. His displays have been a big influence on the side."

The Hornets coach was also keen to highlight Gorski's back-row partner Lee Doran who, along with Workington's Lusi Sione, Halifax's Rikki Sheriffe and Castleford's Jonny Hepworth were close contenders for the prize.

Scrum-half John Braddish, who is playing his best rugby since arriving at Spotland, gets the nod ahead of Dewsbury Rams' Ryan Sheridan.
