Angling Lines

STEVE Hodgeon continued to dominate the Trows Lane matches with two more wins in the Sunday and Wednesday sweepstakes.

In both matches bites were at a premium, and Hodgeon seems to be the only one on the same wavelength as the fish.

On Sunday, on the bottom lodge, Hodgeon needed only 0-12-0 for his sixth win.

He caught some small perch and roach, with a skimmer of about four ounces just before the all out. He used long pole and pinkie from peg four.

In second place was Vinny Eyes who fished his favourite swing tip method from peg six to catch perch and ruffe weighing 0-8-0.

Walt Pilmoor was third. Eight ruffe on the waggler gave him 0-6-8 from peg seven.

The Wednesday match on the round lodge showed just how well Hodgeon is in touch with the fish.

Only two anglers caught and the winning margin was massive.

Fishing from peg four Hodgeon again opted for the pole with pinkie for bait.

In the first hour there were no bites recorded, but Hodgeon then caught skimmers regularly and put 5-9-0 on the scales.

Vinny Eyes was in second place as the only other angler to catch. He had one skimmer of 0-9-0.

A note for Rochdale and District members who may seem to see little action on the progressive stocking of the John Player lodge at Trows.

The fisheries management team would like to reassure members many types of fish are being sought, but finding supplies with the high quality required is proving very difficult.

Many suppliers have promised fish deliveries but have let the team down at the last minute. Members can rest assured the search will continue until stock fish are found.
