BIRTHDAY girl Keri-Anne Payne celebrated with style in the European Short Course Swimming Championships held in Vienna on Saturday.

She claimed victory in the 400m freestyle.

The former Aquabears' star, who was 17 on Thursday, came home in a time of 4 mins 3.50 secs to finish a second ahead of Russia's Daria Parshine.

Spain's Erika Villaecija was more than two seconds adrift in third place.

Payne was delighted to clinch gold and said: "I'm just so happy to get a medal.

"When I saw I was up there with Parshina I knew I had to keep going and I ended up beating her."
