Martial Arts

ALLAN Tattersall has received the highest awards in martial arts, and another came his way on a recent visit to the United States.

During the bi-annual gathering of the Kyoto-based Dai Nippon Butoku Kai the founder of Rochdale's Martial Arts Academy, in Barlow Street, was elected into the prestigious Hall of Fame for senior masters.

He was the first of four masters to be inducted in the first ceremony of its kind and received the first Eagle, a beautiful bronze figure.

Tattersall was director of a team from UK Jujitsu Association Dojos for the big event in the Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Virginia.

They won the best team award. Karl Fitzsimmons, John Lawton and James Rooney won top individual awards.
