Boxing Day blow for Law Cup date

3/12/2004

HORNETS' fans will be able to tuck into the leftover turkey, pull the unused crackers and put their feet up on Boxing Day instead of watching their beloved team play arch-rivals Oldham at Spotland.

Oldham Roughyeds have confirmed the Law Cup match, provisionally booked for 26 December, will not go ahead.

Hornets chief executive Paul Reynolds said: "Oldham are still getting a squad together and did not feel they could make a fist of it.

"We have tried to arrange an alternative game against Halifax instead, but they declined our invitation. We now hope to play the Law Cup early in the new year."

Fixtures for the newly-named Northern Rail Cup - in February - and the LHF National League One will be published next week.
