Wind-up story a wind up: Reynolds

HORNETS' board have moved quickly to quash a rumour they have been served with a winding-up order by the Inland Revenue.

The story, which originated on the club's website messageboard, indicated the directors held an emergency meeting last Wednesday to discuss the matter.

But chief executive Paul Reynolds replied on the same website, denying this was the case. "I can categorically deny this rumour," he said. "This is the second such incident in the past two weeks. Last week someone tried to persuade Arien and Nardi to pull out of the sponsorship deal.

"Despite the best efforts of everyone associated with the club to push Hornets forward, it seems there are still those who wish to pull the club down."

Reynolds issued a rallying call to the fans, adding: "Stay firm and resolved. Remember this is your club, you have built it, don't let them knock it down. For the avoidance of any doubt, Hornets have not received a winding-up petition."

Club director Ann Manock also lent her support to this view. She said: "As a member of the board I can assure you the board meeting was the usual bi-weekly meeting we have held since I joined the board in August.

"If this was an emergency of such monumental proportions, why then is the chairman blissfully unaware of this on holiday for two weeks?

"The club is stronger now than it has been for a number of years. And if anyone would like to check the Inland Revenue website, they will find an up-to-date list of recently issued winding-up orders. Rochdale Hornets are conspicuous by their absence."
