Lees hit another four

TWENTY-FIVE years and counting was the good news for local cricket when local brewers JW Lees announced a four-year extension to their sponsorship of the Central Lancashire League's Wood Cup.

Lees have supported the competition for 21 years and sales director Dean Redfearn told guests at the league's annual presentation dinner at Milnrow Cricket Club of his company's plans. He said: "I am pleased to announce JW Lees will continue their sponsorship of the Wood Cup for a further four years.

"This will take us to 25 years and once again it demonstrates our commitment to local sport."

League chairman Howard Dronsfield said: "It's fantastic for a company to give their support for 25 years, almost unheard of. I would like to thank them on behalf of the league."

The prizes on the night were handed out by guest speaker, former Lancashire and England cricketer Graham Lloyd. The individual prizes were:

Sir Frank Worrell Trophy - leading run-scorer (945 runs): John Hean (Unsworth).

Clifford Pickup Memorial Trophy - leading wicket-taker (67 wickets): Alan Badenhorst (Unsworth).

Littleborough Supporters Trophy - all-rounder of the year (785 runs, 32 wickets): Mark Hooson (Walsden).

Lal Vohra Trophy - most improved young player (610 runs, 44 wickets): Luke Proctor (Oldham).

President's Trophy for outstanding contribution to his club and the league: Tom Williams (Unsworth).
