OH TO have been a fly on the wall in the Glazier household in Syke a couple of weeks ago.

Alan Glazier was one of the best known players in the game in his heyday, as recognisable as Bristow, Lowe or Jock Wilson - and even Bobby George.

That's who stayed at the home of Alan and his darts-playing wife Christine, while up in the Rochdale area to do an exhibition and, Christine Glazier tells me, the two talked about the good old days well into the early hours.

Glazier and George, famous for his sequinned shirts, gold rings and even a Liberace-style candelabra, played in the same England team for many years, so they would have had many a shared moment to talk about and a few characters too.

Bobby George's exhibition raised a fair amount for the Castleton Gabriel Junior Football Club.

Alan, now 65, still turns out regularly for the Gale Inn and he and Christine will be playing during the winter, not only for the local pub but also for their respective men's and women's Milnrow team in the Lancashire GMC Super League.

Waggon and Horses' landlady Julie Clarke defeated her counterpart from the Wardle Conservative Club in the final to become the Littleborough and District Ladies' League landlady's champion.

Eleven players from Rochdale have entered tomorrow's Hyde Open and will travel to Tameside in the hope of bringing back the Lions' share of £1,000 prize money on offer. The winner will pick up £400. Last year's event was won by a former Rochdale player Les Fitton.
