Sporting chance

30/ 7/2004

A SPECIAL taster day at Springhill High School has proved a huge boost for disabled sports in Rochdale.

More than 60 people turned up for the Sporting Chance event where they watched and sampled the delights of wheelchair basketball, goalball and boccia.

Such was the response the organisers - which included Springhill sports centre staff, Rochdale MBC's active communities team, the Ronald Gorton Centre Kickstart sport group and GB wheelchair table tennis player Joy Gerber - are hoping to provide regular weekly activities.

Anyone interested in getting more involved in sport, leisure and physical activity for people with disabilities are encouraged to attend the Rochdale Disability Sports Forum.

Meetings take place every two months and meeting venues are rotated. For further details contact Julie Durrant on 01706 745120.
