Shand makes up for lost time on Garstang course

IT'S been an exciting week of cycling for West Pennine Road Club.
They had their first time-trial promotion of the year and the A6-based course at Garstang was fairly quiet as people stayed indoors to watch the FA Cup Final.
Pennine's best man on the day, Kev Shand, overcame a 10-second late start to record a time of 23 mins 25 secs. He was closely followed by John Hey who was only a couple of seconds slower.
Mark Isherwood showed more than a flash of his old form in posting 23.44. He was well ahead of another comeback rider, Dave Pennock, who timed 24.25.
Daniel Shand showed the future could be bright for the club with a finish in 26.59. He was just ahead of Dave Matthews (27.14) and Rob Finegan who clocked in at 28 mins 26 secs in his first ever competitive event.
Brian Mills finished in 29 mins 36 secs for the over 70s and Harry Benson, aged 78, finished in 41 mins 15 secs.
Overall victory went to John Morgan of Preston Wheelers with a time of 20 mins 57 secs.
The next day saw Richard Taylor compete in the North Lancs RC 50 event on the Bassenthwaite course near Keswick.
He posted a time of two hours, 15 mins and 38 secs. The winner was the promoting club's Steve Whitehad in 1.52-58.
