Fair time in Scarborough for Bear Masters

AQUABEAR Masters won 23 gold medals, 13 silvers and 12 bronze in the Yorkshire Masters short-course championships which were held in Scarborough.

Neville Barton led the way with five golds. He set a new British record of 1min 15.22 secs in the 100m breaststroke.

Rachel Barton won golds in all six of her events and Phil Cropper had a maximum gold haul from four events.

Donald Fletcher took gold on 50m and 200m freestyle, silver on 100m freestyle, and bronze on 100m backstroke.

Heather Hudson collected golds from the 200m freestyle and 100m backstroke, the latter in an impressive 1 min 13.43 secs. She also won bronze in the 50m backstroke.

Tom Dean won gold on 100m backstroke, silver on 50m backstroke and bronze on 50m breaststroke.

The 100m backstroke saw Toni Smithies win gold. She also won silver on 50m butterfly, silver on 100m individual medley and bronze on 200m freestyle.

Christel Meredith won three silver medals in freestyle events.

Mark Greenwood won silvers on 50m backstroke and 100m individual medley. John George collected two silvers and a bronze.

Liz Dawson and Michael Harrington each won three bronzes.

The men's relay team of Mark Greenwood, Neville Barton, Tom Dean and Donald Fletcher won the medley and finished third in the freestyle. In the 120+ age group, John George, Phil Cropper, Neville Barton and Mark Greenwood finished second in the medley and freestyle events.

The ladies' 160+ freestyle team of Rachel Barton, Liz Dawson, Toni Smithies and Christel Meredith won gold medals.
