Stylish start to season for Manchester’s Rachel

MANCHESTER Golf Club's Rachel Connor has started the season in style.

The 13-year-old began with a win in the Lancashire Girls Spring meeting at Swinton Park. She had a best gross of 78.

The six-handicapper then won the Lancashire Schools contest, at Blackley Golf Club, with a best gross of 79. She teamed up with brother Scott to win the doubles competition.

Rachel is also in contention in the Faldo Junior Series Order of Merit.

Playing in the Midlands and East Anglia section she finished second at Royal West Norfolk and second at Woburn. She is in second place in the rankings with one event to play. The winner goes through to the national final.

• TWO local clubs had mixed fortunes in the Daily Mail Foursomes.

Lobden beat near neighbours Bacup three and two, but Tunshill went down five and four at North Manchester.

• MEMBERS of the Coach and Horses Society are keeping their fingers crossed their season can get underway next Friday.
