Youngsters are Bob on for Goulding

HORNETS' coach Bobbie Goulding went back to school to pass on his rugby skills.

The former Great Britain scrum-half helped out at a coaching session for under 12 players from clubs around Rochdale at Hill Top Primary school, Kirkholt on Monday night.

And he was so impressed with what he saw that he has invited the players to a match at Spotland when they will be presented with a free Hornets' season ticket.

The youngsters have been taking part in a pilot scheme organised by Rochdale rugby league co-ordinator Carl Richards and backed by The Rugby League, which seeks to improve basic skills, agility, balance and co-ordination.

Richards has been the lead coach for the programme, but he has been helped by coaches from local rugby league clubs since it started in October.

And everyone involved has been impressed by the progress the group has made.

"All the local rugby league clubs have been involved and it's helped to form a great link," said Richards.

"There's no doubt this is the way forward for rugby league."

The course has another two weeks to run.
