Body blow for Todd as ABA stand firm

HAMER boxer Rory Todd has had to accept the Amateur Boxing Association's decision that he won't get the chance to box for a national title.

But he will get the chance to prove whether he is a better boxer than the lad given the championship in a walkover.

Todd failed to turn up for the ABA novice finals in Leeds because he and his coaches were under the impression there was no one to fight.

He had received walkovers through all rounds in his half of the draw, and his club didn't know until the day of the final that Londoner Roger Ware had also reached the final without boxing.

Hamer officials had hoped to persuade the ABA to give todd another chance to contest the final but the national governing body stood firm.

The Rochdale club holds a show at Richmond Hall on Thursday 22 January and they had hoped to entice Ware there to box against Todd.

Ware and his club Hollington refused to accept the challenge but instead they've offered Todd the chance to meet Ware on a show in London.

Former Hamer club favourite Craig Staniskuaskis is back in training at the club. Craig had a promising junior career but had to turn his back on the ring due to work commitments.

He won't be ready to box on this month's show, but there are plenty of other local lads showing off their skills on what will be an exciting night.
