Croney finds defeat very hard to swallow

DEFEAT for Rochdale captain Matthew Croney was especially hard to swallow after his side went down to Timperley.

Croney had to pay up in pints of beer after losing a bet with Rob Macklin, the Timperley skipper and also a very good friend of his.

"We always have a bet when we play each other," said Macklin. "If I score, then he buys me a pint, but if he saves any of my shots, then I've got to get him a pint."

And Croney only managed to save one of Macklin's efforts on target, while the Timperley skipper weighed in with a hat-trick.

"I wasn't particularly happy," admitted Croney, whose side trailed 3-8 at half-time and couldn't find a way back into the contest. "Timperley deserved to beat us, it was a bad result for us, but losing the bet just made it worse. I had to buy him pints afterwards."
