10-try Hornets crush neighbours

HORNETS' mid-season blip was emphatically ended with a 10-try 58-14 demolition of neighbours Oldham Roughyeds.

Gareth Price, Matty Long, Damian Ball and captain Paul Smith all grabbed two tries each, while Mick Nanyn helped himself to nine goals.

Hornets were 10-2 up inside 15 minutes thanks to Ball and Price. Keith Brennan replied with a try for Oldham but the home side took control and the game was all but over at half-time as Hornets raced into a 28-8 lead.

And any thoughts of an Oldham comeback were quickly dispelled by tries from Smith and John Hamilton.

Gareth Barber did tag on a second try for the visitors but four more Hornets scores - from Price, Ball, Long and Chris Irwin - underlined Rochda;e's superiority on the day.
