Simpson - Confidence is crucial

3/ 1/2003

PLAYERS having belief in both themselves and the system has stimulated the clubs growing confidence insists Paul Simpson.

Player-boss Simpson was disappointed his side - unbeaten in their last seven matches - missed an opportunity to close in on the leaders when their New Year's Day clash at Darlington fell foul of the weather.

"With the players in the frame of mind they are in at present I really would have liked to have played. I felt we could have won the game," he said.

"I firmly believe the players have every confidence in the system we are using and no matter what the situation they know they will have a team-mate fighting every inch of the way with them.

"The spirit is naturally better now results have improved and they have started to believe in each other again. I now have the confidence to go into each game thinking we won't lose it and we have worked hard to achieve this," he added on the club's official website.
