Michael for England
20/12/2002
ROCHDALE'S young rugby star Michael Ratu was presented with his England shirt last weekend.
The Year 10 pupil at Falinge High school has been selected to represent English School, in an inaugural test match against France, after impressing at a National camp hosted by current Great Britain coach David Waite.
Michael, who is with Wigan Warriors on a scholarship scheme, is sponsored by Bev Kershaw of Kershaw Auctioneers, Rochdale.
He plays for National Conference Premiership side Higginshaw.
Michel comes from a rugby playing family, and his grandfather Mike, and his uncle Emon, who are well known locally, both played professional rugby with Rochdale Hornets.
Michael is the first person of Fijian descent to be selected to wear an England jersey at any level.
This is a source of great pride to Michael's extended family in Fiji, and the story has made the national news.
