Transfer window could hinder loans says Simpson

THE Football Association has yet to confirm the transfer windows for the coming season. But it is rumoured that an initial transfer deadline of 31 August will be imposed.

If that is the case, that deadline is also expected to include loan signings which have been increased to 10 this season following the collapse of ITV Digital.

But Rochdale player/ manager Paul Simpson believes such a deadline would make it almost impossible for clubs to use their full allocation of loan signings. He said: "As I understand it, the players we've got by 31 August are the players we will work with until another transfer window opens, including loan signings. If that's the case, it is unlikely we will use the full number of loans we are allowed to.

"Loans are used when you get injuries or suspensions, and you don't know when they will occur over the season. But we will have to wait and see what happens regarding the transfer situation."

A spokesman for the FA told the Observer that proposals for next season's regulations must be submitted to the FA council at their next meeting on 6 July.

There appears to be good news on the training front, as Bowlee playing fields, Middleton, are ready to be used by Dale. Assistant boss Jamie Hoyland welcomed the news.

He said: "The new pitch at Bowlee looks good. The council has worked hard on it, and we're very pleased. We plan to use it until September, and then we'll see what happens after that."
