Hornets enjoyed most of the early pressure, but were reeling as Rovers ran in two tries courtesy of Alex Smith and Jon Aston.
Hornets closed the gap as Sean Cooper crossed for two tries in close succession, but the home side then presented Hull with a gift try just before the break.
Hull went into the interval with an eight-point lead but after the restart, it was Hornets who took control.
Some superb handling and support play brought tries for Casey Mayberry, James Bunyan and Sean Cooper, who completed his hat-trick, to put Hornets into the clear lead.
Godfrey ran in a consolation try for Rovers with a minute left on the clock, but it was Rochdale who remained unbeaten this season as the hooter sounded.
