Hornets raring to go

28/ 9/2001

Hornets reached the dizzy heights of the play-offs last in the last campaign, and they would like to go all the way this time.

Coach Martin Hall is impressed with the early fitness of those who have reported back for training.

"The lads are back to business and can't wait for the new season to start," he said.

"There are still one or two on holiday but those players that have been to training are looking in good shape and they are working hard.

"In fact, it is to their credit that many of them are in better shape at this stage of the preparations than they were when I arrived just before the start of last season."

And their are no injury worries as, during the close season, players have had remedial surgery to sort out niggling injury worries.

Hall added: "James Bunyan, Latham Tawhai and David Stephenson have all undergone treatment and are 100 per cent.

"With the new signings in place it is now a question of getting the teamwork right and working together as a unit. If we do I am sure we can have another successful season."

Hornets will have their first opportunity for a run out on 18 November when they travel to Victory Park to take on Chorley Lynx.

It is hoped that the Law Cup game against Oldham can be arranged for the following week 25 November.

The season is forecast to start on 2 December.
