Lengthy success for swimming coach

Dave is a nationally recognised coach and has been responsible for many Great Britain and England competitors at the highest level.

He has also coached internationally with the Great Britain disabled squad.

He regularly contributes more than 30 hours a week to coaching with Aquabears.

Nikki Edwards (Rochdale Trampolines), Cheryl Gharbi (Rochdale Olympic Gymnastics Club), Irfan Ansari (Doryoku Karate Club) and Steve Prime (Mayfield Mustangs under 13s) were the other nominees.

Other award winners included Maurice Clarke, Steve Prime, Nikki Edwards, Nancy Gibson and Alan Morton.

Maurice Clarke, of Rochdale Judo Club, picked up the Dedication to Sport award.

He has been involved with the club for 48 years and continues to work with both juniors and less experienced coaches.

Steve Prime and Nikki Edwards both received Special Achievement awards.

Steve was rewarded for coaching Mustangs under 13s to the league championships and steering the Rochdale Borough under 11s mixed tag squad to a second successive gold medal at the youth games.

Nikki is a newly qualified Advanced Part 2 trampolining coach who started Rochdale Trampolines four years ago and has coached club members to National Level.

Newcomer of the Year was Nancy Gibson of Littleborough Trampolining Club.

She has progressed from recreational trampolining to coach of the women's club and helps to run the Multi Sports Club in Littleborough. She has also recently qualified in basketball.

Alan Morton was voted Community Coach of the Year.

Alan has been involved with coaching for about 30 years, working mainly in challenging areas of the community in Middleton.
