Rochdale Hornets celebrate their cup win over local rivals Oldham.
Win for revamped Hornets side
26/11/2001
Martin Hall's revamped squad were better in all departments as they ran in five tries to two against the Roughyeds.
Hornets opened the scoring as early as the sixth minute, as man of the match Richard Pachniuk, forced his way over.
Another contender for the award Richard Agar, added two more before the break, as the home side went in at the break leading 16-2.
Forty-five seconds into the second half, second rower Matty Long forced his way over as Hornets once again dominated.
Oldham managed a try against the run of play as Keith Brennan sliced through a static defence.
Hornets' winger Marlon Billy cancelled that out as he powered in from 20 metres to score.
Oldham ran in a late consolation to give the scoreline a touch of respectability.
In truth Hornets had been the far better side and could and probably should have won by a bigger margin.
