Dale progress satisfies Parkin

He felt that the game had fulfilled all the aims required from this type of fixture.

Parkin thought the team might have won more comfortably as they created a lot of chances. But he was pleased not to have suffered any injuries.

"The first thing that I look for in these games is to come through without injuries and we managed that," said Parkin.

"The second thing is to see how the new lads settle in and I was delighted with them.

"Big Gareth Griffiths was very impressive and got himself onto the score sheet.

"Matt Doughty and Kieran Durkan both did well too.

"Richard Green picked up a slight back strain in training on Thursday so we decided not to risk him.

"Even though the final score probably didn't do us justice, bearing in mind all the chances we made, it was a good game for us and the lads had a decent work out"

Parkin is now looking forward to the trip North next week, which will offer more opportunities for the squad to get in tune.

He added: "We are going away to Scotland this week and whilst we are there we can work on the set plays and things like that.

"The trip gives us the opportunity to get more match fitness into the players and to work on the technical side of things.''
