Schools teams' second clash

Both sides gave an excellent display of mod rules rugby and were a credit to their respective schools.

St Vincent's had already won the first game, played at Norden, earlier in the year, and were strong favourites to take the honours again.

From the kick-off, a much-improved home side took the game to the visitors, ably led by Hyland, Sawyer and Dybdale.

These three players inspired their team-mates with notable performances in defence and attack by Lodge, Heywood, Smithies and Rothwell.

St Vincent's players never gave up, with Gudmansen, Wood, Lutcherich, Henry and Hanley standing out.

With tries from Sawyer (4), Dybdale (1) and Heywood (1), St Edward's were worthy winners on the day.

The only reply for St Vincent's came from a well-worked Wood try.

Weather permitting, there will be a third game - a contest eagerly awaited by both schools.
