Harriers on the move

AFTER many years of waiting for a new synthetic athletics track on which to train and compete Rochdale Harriers have finally moved to the new arena at Springhill Sports Centre.

During the past few weeks the number of juniors going down to the track has increased by about 10 per cent which bodes well for the future of athletics in Rochdale.

Harriers train at Springhill on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7pm.

Phil Roberts hopes to see Harriers' junior section field a track and field team of boys and girls next season.

This will compliment the senior ladies and men's teams which compete in the North West Track and Field League Division Four.

With other facilities coming on stream in the very near future (new hammer and discus cage and pole vault and javelin areas) it is hoped Harriers will attract more members to compete in field events and dispel the myth that they are just a running club.

The Sports Centre and arena is available to the public after 6pm on weekdays, and from 10am at weekends, with 'casual' running facilities available most days.
