Pearson’s climb back to top

DEFENDING title-holders Pearson Champions under nines sent a clear message of intent after reclaiming top spot in the league with a convincing victory over Bury FC.

Champions scored within 20 seconds of the kick-off when Jack Higginson finished off a superb move which involved every player except the keeper.

Oliver Burnham got the second when he turned in a good cross from Zach Gemmell and another superb move involving Higginson, Rhys Fallows, Kyle Irving and Burnham was ended by Fallows for the third.

Irving sent Burnham down the wing from where he hit a cracking shot into the roof of the net for his second and Champions' fourth and the fifth followed a goalmouth scramble, eventually Irving poking it into the bottom corner.

Early in the second half Burnham completed his hat-trick as he turned in another pass from Irving.

A through ball from Burnham set up Higginson to bag his second before Gemmell drove one into the roof of the net following a solo run. A couple of minutes before the end he grabbed his second to complete a 9-0 win.

Pearson Champions under nines White, second in the league with two games in hand over their Black counterparts, were involved in a cup tie. A convincing 3-0 victory secured their progress.

Pearson Athletic under 10s went three points clear at the top of their league by beating Bridge Colts 3-2.

Pearson Celtic under eights Black are now three points clear at the top of the Premier League after their convincing 2-0 victory over Middleton Dynamos Blues.

Pearson Celtic under eights White continued their good form against a much-improved Bury Amateur Eagles. Earlier in the season White strolled to a comfortable 8-0 victory, but it took a sweet strike from Callum McGuiness to keep the sides level at 1-1 going into half time. Luke Cornforth, who was player of the match for the second successive game, netted a second-half hat-trick and Josh Hall finished off Eagles with a lovely goal from outside the area to make the final score 5-1.

Pearson Athletic under 10s Black beat the under 10s White 6-4 in a thrilling Mini-League match at Bowlee.

In an under nines league match at Bowlee a good all-round team performance saw Pearson's overcome a spirited Soccer Dynamos 6-3. A hat-trick from player-of-the-match Will Smith, a brace from Zach Gemmell and a superb effort from Adam Horton capped an end-to-end game.

Pearson Tigers under 14s were without big central defender Patrick Diba for their match against Heyside.

Jack Shepherd moved to centre half, but it left Pearson's wanting a little in midfield and this, plus many missed chances, proved costly as Heyside won 3-2.
