Dell is in ding-dong form as colder weather sets in

ANGLING: ROCHDALE Walton’s Healey Dell preserve continues to fish well as the weather begins to get colder.

The Fred Garside Trophy match, fished last Sunday, produced some excellent weights.

In first place was Chris Woodrup who had a mixed catch of ide, roach, skimmers and tench weighing 23-2-0.

Pete Mottram had yet another good net of 18-8-0 for second place, while in third place was John McFarland who weighed in with 17-8-0.

Rochdale and District’s working party match saw a poor turn out, with only eight involved.

Due to the dire form of the match lodge, this event was fished on the round lodge.

Steve Carne made the trophy his own with a late burst on hemp. He weighed in 3-4-0. In second place was Ted Dunn who caught roach and perch, with a chub, to put 3-3-0 on the scales.

Third placed John Hooper had a mixture of roach, perch and skimmers weighing 2-9-8.

The latest trophy match for Todmorden members was fished on Croft by 13.

Mick Clegg won the trophy by fishing pole and pellet to land a mixed net of 37-0-0.

In second place, Graham Mallinson caught 19-10-0 of small carp and bream on pole and pellet. Pete Fitton had a mixed net weighing 15-10-0, taken on pole and caster.

The fish of the day was a bream of 3-8-0 caught by Graham Mallinson.

Some early notices for the Todmorden members. The AGM will be held on 12 November at the Hollins Inn.

The annual Christmas match will be on 14 December, and the match programme for 2009 will be decided after the committee meeting on 5 November.

More details to follow.

Rochdale and District’s regular Wednesday fixture was held at Alexander Park, Oldham, with 15 anglers on the bank.

Billy Brierley won the match with 6-4-8 of roach and chub taken on pole and maggot.

Second placed Steve Hodgeon fished pole and pinkie to narrowly miss out on top spot with 6-4-0.

Third was Geoff Cave who netted 3-8-8 on pole and maggot.

Work will shortly commence on Rochdale and District’s starch lodge at Trows.

When the work starts the lodge will be closed for a short period.

The match lodge has now been roped across to deter cormorants and gooseanders, and it is hoped the John Player lodge will be roped off on Wednesday.

Members are asked not to remove these ropes for any reason.
