LITTLEBOROUGH blew hot and cold in their first home match of the season, against Drighlington A at the Community School.

They started very strongly, with Waddington sending Mills crashing over the line for the first try, converted by Gregory.

Keegan, who created problems for the visitors’ defence every time he touched the ball, broke through for the home team’s second.

The try-fest continued as Sweeney sidestepped his way over, then good work by Browne and Gregory created space for Whittaker to charge in.

Walsh added to Boro’s tally before Drighlington at last breached the hosts’ defence.

Their try was soon cancelled out as Sharrocks responded with a 50-yard break to touch down.

Boro then lost Sweeney to a red card and the visitors added a second.

Johnstone completed the first-half scoring for Boro.

The second half bore little resemblance to the opening 40 minutes as Boro lost their discipline and effort.

Walsh completed his hat-trick and Crossley’s try brought up the half century, but Drighlington added 20 points to their total.

A win is a win, but Boro will need to focus for the full 80 minutes of games if they are to maintain their unbeaten record this season.
