Sociable day as trophy is won

JOHN Kershaw lifted the Rochdale Observer individual trophy at Hollingworth Lake on Saturday when he put more than 11 lbs to the scales.

But the Walton angler, was one of the lucky ones, as weights were generally on the poor side, in keeping with this annual event on a water which continues to baffle.

Some who had fished the Lake in midweek said they had enjoyed a bonanza, while on Saturday they netted hardly anything.

Simon Newsham was runner-up in the individual stakes with 11-6-8 and helped his Nomads team, to the Bernard Mills Memorial Trophy which goes to the four with the highest aggregate weight on the day.

The team trophy, decided on points awarded for placings, went to Socials, who pipped Nomads by one.

Results were:

Team Trophy: Socials 11 points, Rochdale Nomads 12, Tricast Rochdale 16, Whitworth Valley 17.
Bernard Mills Memorial Trophy: 1 Rochdale Nomads 24-5-8; 2 Tricast Rochdale 17-8-8; 3 Walton Rejects 16-2-8.
Individual: 1 John Kershaw 11-13-8; 2 Simon Newsham 11-6-8; 3 Dean Turner 9-15-0; 4 Darren Cloran 8-14-0.
