Home ties in Cup

BOTH Rochdale Hornets and Rochdale Mayfield received home draws in the Carnegie Challenge Cup Third Round.

Hornets will face York Acorn at Spotland while Mayfield tackle Barrow Raiders at Castleton Spors Centre. Ties will be played the weekend of 8/9 March.

Mayfield travel to play Ince Rose Bridge today in an ACE Insurance BARLA National Challenge Cup quarter-final, kick-off 2pm.

Mayfield will be looking to build on last week’s victory over the Royal Navy.

Ince Rose Bridge are currently third from bottom in the National Conference Division Two.

Mayfield NWC continue their promotion bid today when take on second placed Saddleworth.

Both teams are currently on 22 points in division four, with Saddleworth ahead on points difference.

LEE Durrant faces his former club today when Whitworth Spartans take on Mayfield B in a quarter-final of the Pennine Supplementary Cup, kick-off 2pm at Castleton Sports Centre.

Durrant believes Mayfield go into the game as clear favourites, due to home

advantage, and his side having picked up a string of injuries in last week’s game against Wibsey.

It is hoped some of the walking wounded will have recovered and can play, but it’s been a race against time. Three players will have fitness tests this morning.

Durrant has drafted in a couple of new lads to give more pace out wide and to cover for injuries.

There has been a lot of banter between the teams in recent weeks. Now it’s up to the players to stand up and be counted.

Spartans’ players should meet at the Red Lion at noon, in full club attire. The coach departs at 12.30pm.
