Rochdale Hornets 34 Swinton Lions 38

25/ 2/2008

A LATE try from Swinton winger Andy Saywell ensured Lions took the points in the Northern Rail Cup.

Saywell barged over in the corner late on to steal the win from Bobbie Goulding's team in a frenetic derby clash.

National League Two Swinton have not been in the best of form of late but they turned the tables on the Hornets to bag a famous victory.

Rochdale raced to an 8-0 lead thanks to tries from Alex Brown and Chris Foster before the Lions had even got going.

They managed to pull two back through Marlon Billy and Darren Gibson to keep in touch at the break after the Hornets had crossed for a four-pointer through Martin Ainscough, with Foster collecting his double.

But then Martin Moana sneaked over twice for the Lions, Gibson helped himself to a second and Liam McGovern powered over.

Foster hit back for Hornets with his hat-trick try and David Newton touched down to set up a tense finish.

Alex Brown went over late on for the Hornets, but Saywell sealed it.
