Rochdale Junior Colts travelled to Liverpool with a patched up side, further weakened by injuries to four backs during the match, and suffered a 36-7 defeat as a result.
The first half was a close affair, with Collegiate leading 14-7 and Rochdale’s pack the equal of their opponents.
Callum Mulkeen claimed Rochdale’s points. He scythed through the Collegiate back line and rounded the fullback at pace to score then convert his try.
Collegiate scored three more tries late in the second half after outflanking Rochdale’s makeshift line up which never stopped trying despite the injury setbacks.
Jamie MacDougal, Nathan Mowatt and Gary Burgess took the honours in a solid performance by the pack, while Callum Mulkeen, Toby Porter and Mark Ramatowski – the only backs to play the whole game – performed well.
