Golbourne Parkside 14 Rochdale Mayfield NWC 14

MAYFIELD NWC travelled to Parkside Golborne on Saturday with a depleted team, and player coach Appleyard sidelined

Mayfield, started strongly, pinning the home team in their own half for long periods.

Captain, Biggins and second-row partner Nyland put in some big hits, but Golborne seized on to a handling error to score the first try.

The visitors then missed tackles and Golborne crossed for a second.

And, the hosts looked certain to score again, but a try-saving tackle from Aunders kept them out.

This lifted Mayfield, who started to win the battle in the middle of the park with props Spencer and Eyres making good yards. Snape found space and sprinted through to score. Marsland added the extras.

Mayfield's attack moved up a gear and, after great play from Todd, Nyland hit the line at pace to score out wide.

The visitors kept the home side at bay, in what was proving to be the performance of the season, despite losing the influential Todd through injury.

Mayfield produced an excellent attacking move, which ended with Marsland popping a ball out the side door to Wood to touch down out wide.

Golborne pressed in the closing stages and, a dubious penalty close to the line saw Mayfield defending 12 tackles in a row.

On the last, the hosts dinked a short kick through and a Golborne player stretched out to score. The try was converted to level the scores.

The joint man-of-the-match award went to Mark Biggins and Mark Nyland.
