Widnes fixture is now an away day

ESSENTIAL repair work at Spotland means that Rochdale Hornets' home clash with Widnes Vikings on 27 May will now be an away fixture.
In a statement, Hornets said: "In consultation with contractors who are due to commence essential repair and maintenance work, representatives from both clubs explored every option to achieve playing the match at Spotland on the 27th - both the Rugby and the Football Club worked hard to find a solution for the rugby club to retain home advantage. Reluctantly both parties had to agree that the task was impossible.
"As an ongoing programme of repair and general maintenance which ensure that both clubs benefit from the best possible playing conditions annual work is essential and welcomed by both teams.
"Due to a natural cycle of growth and decline the work needed to be done falls into the spring and summer timetable of the seasons - In addition the advent of summer rugby has also added to the pressure of managing ground maintenance whilst completing fixtures. Additionally Northern League Cup has meant more games have had to be fitted in during this critical time.
"Hornets would like to thank their neighbours Rochdale AFC for their support and also for their endorsement of three coaches to be paid for by the Stadium Company - hopefully this will encourage as many Hornets supporters as possible to make the trip."
