HORNETS hold an extraordinary general meeting at Spotland on Monday in Studds Bar, starting at 7pm.

Two items high on the agenda will be a proposed merger with Rochdale Football Club, and the Inland Revenue’s £55,000 winding up order against the club – due to be heard in the High Court on Wednesday.

The board will also update shareholders on the current state of affairs and possible solutions to the problems faced by the troubled club.

While the merger proposal will be one of those options, the directors have not ruled out other ways of moving the club forward. With this in mind, Hornets chief executive Ken Oldham and former chairman David Vining were due to meet with liquidators and solicitors in Leeds yesterday to explore other available avenues.

Mr Oldham said: "We are charged with exploring all the options available to us. The football club have been very helpful and we will keep them in the loop. There may be another route open to us and we have to look at that before Monday’s meeting."
