FIRST team call ups and injuries left Hornets travelling to Cumbria with a threadbare squad on Saturday.
They must have sensed that it was not to be their day when they had a first minute try disallowed on the intervention of a touchjudge who was some 50 yards away from play.
Whitehaven scored the first of their 10 tries after five minutes but Chris Forster, scored and converted a brilliant try to level the scores soon after.
That was the bright spot as Hornets were well beaten by an experienced Whitehaven side.
The second team face another tough test this Saturday when they travel to Widnes for a 2.30pm kick-off.
