Ban for Bobbie

Mike Floyd
14/ 5/2008

ROCHDALE Hornets coach Bobbie Goulding has been given a four-match touchline ban - suspended for 12 months - for disputing a referee's decision.

The former St Helens and Great Britain scrum-half was found guilty by an RFL tribunal of "inappropriate behaviour" during Hornets' 42-5 defeat by Hull in last month's fourth round Carnegie Challenge Cup tie.

Goulding will only have to serve the ban if he is found guilty of another offence in the next 12 months. He was also ordered to pay a £200 fine and given an additional £300 suspended fine.

Goulding was sent off by referee Michael Dawber and subsequently charged with using foul and abusive language and breaching the League's respect policy.

Meanwhile Hull are facing expulsion from the Carnegie Cup for fielding an ineligible player in Sunday's fifth-round tie at Widnes Vikings.

James Thackray, the player in question, also played in Hull's win over Rochdale in April which could lead to a protest from the Spotland outfit should Widnes be reinstated.
